Small Groups
Often, small groups of people are better able to interact and learn about a topic than larger groups are. For that reason, Oak Lawn First has small Bible studies held in member homes in the fall and spring. The groups are also a great way to get to know some new people. You can sign up for a study at church on Sunday.
The study for this spring will be centered around Craig Groeschel’s book Weird.
Sunday School
We offer Sunday School classes for all ages; infants through senior adults. The classes allow you to study more of the Bible and are very visitor friendly. Start out with some coffee and donuts, and then join a class.
Caravan Children’s Ministry
Each Monday evening during the school year, kids in the first – sixth grades meet for CARAVAN, the scouting-type children’s ministry here at Oak Lawn First. They earn all types of pins, badges, and awards, and this year there is talk of a PINEWOOD DERBY! Your kids are truly missing out if all they are doing on Monday nights is just watching TV.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is THE event each summer! Boys and girls gather for five consecutive fun-filled nights of music, crafts, snacks, and Bible teaching. VBS is free to attend and is sure to be a week they will never forget.
Again this year, we will have the Go Fish Guys for our VBS (via video) as the lead us in PRAISE! Stay tuned for the dates.
Youth Ministry – 121LIFE
Each Sunday evening, it is all about the 121LIFE. 121LIFE is our youth group for students 12 years old (6th grade) and up. We meet in the “youth room” located directly behind the sanctuary on Sunday evenings at 6:00PM. Every so often we will take “field trip” for more fun. Come hang out with us this Sunday!
Esther Prayer & Share/Wednesday Night Prayer
Prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer moves the hand of God. Oak Lawn First Church of the Nazarene is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty. Each Friday morning at 10AM, women gather in the church library to pray for their pastors, a list of church members, any special requests, and missionary prayer needs. Each Wednesday at 6:30PM, the church comes together for a special time of prayer and Bible study.
Oak Lawn Day Nursery Early Childhood Academy
Children are a precious gift from God. They are to be nurtured and developed from their first breath. Our goal is to complement the child’s home experience with the time he or she spends with us.
OLDN is a licensed Early Childhood Center whose mission is to show the love of Jesus Christ to children by meeting their needs spiritually, emotionally, physically, and intellectually.
Ladies’ Night Out
If you are a lady, you are invited! It is a fun time of fellowship filled with activities at different monthly locations. It is a great opportunity to make some new friends.
Men’s Breakfasts
There is just something about breakfast that men love. So we meet over breakfast both weekly and monthly. Every Friday morning you will find us at Les Brothers Restaurant at the corner of 87th & Ridgeland at 9:00AM enjoying breakfast together. Then on the fourth Saturday of the month we take turns doing the cooking and eat at the church. Be sure to bring an empty stomach!
Senior Adults Luncheon
Once you get past fifty, the fun has just begin. Whether retired, just plain tired, or active as ever, you are invited to our Senior Adults luncheon held on the third Wednesday of the month from April through November. The luncheon is held at noon at the Les Brothers Restaurant at the corner of 87th & Ridgeland. Come enjoy some great food and fellowship!
Praise Team & Choir
God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Many church members get involved in our music ministry. Some play their instruments. Some are vocalists. Others are involved in the choir. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of Oak Lawn First, using their talents and gifts to glorify God. Why not join them?
Children’s Church
In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, Oak Lawn First offers a children’s church service in conjunction with the main service. This special time gives kids, preschool – 5th grade, more opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly children’s church volunteers have an endless stream of creativity–ranging from puppet shows, to games, to object lessons.
