Christianity 101

christianity_101

Of the world's major religion-Christianity--we sometimes speak in generalities. This person is "Christian" while another is "Hindu," ignoring the shades of distinction between different doctrines and sects. If you are new to the faith, it is natural to wonder "What does a Christian believe?" It is this question for which Christianity 101 provides answers. Who is God and what is his nature? Was Jesus really his son, and why is that important? Similar questions about where the Bible came from, what purpose does the Holy Spirit serve, what role does the church play in our lives, and more, all stem from a heart seeking to know what Christians share in common.

This eight-session course will help you feel confident in knowing the basics of the Christian faith, and prepare you to study further aspects of the Christian religion and spirituality.

Growing In Faith

This approachable guide to developing life-long habits for spiritual growth will guide you on your way as it discusses the role of prayer, Bible reading, meditation, fasting, silence, Christian service, and more. Understand more fully the joy of pursuing holiness.

Maturing in our Christian lives and in the experience of God's grace takes intentionality. But it is not a daunting, joyless task as some tend to believe. It can be an interesting, satisfying, and spiritually rewarding adventure.

In six sessions, Growing in Faith explores the importance of Bible reading and how to do it, various methods of prayer, sources of devotional material, classic spiritual disciplines, the importance of participation in our faith community, and the importance of service to others.

Articles Of Faith

articles

The core beliefs of the Church of the Nazarene are found in the Articles of Faith from the Nazarene Manual. These articles provide the essential "glue" that binds the church into a unified and cohesive whole. Without the unifying expression of our beliefs as articulated in these articles, we have no reason to exist as a denomination.

This collection of articles and reflection questions will help you understand the uniqueness of our church within the Body of Christ. At the end of each article, there are reflection questions which allow you to think and meditate on what you have read.

This study of the Articles of Faith of the Church of the Nazarene provides the church with a fresh and contemporary explanation of these vital statements. Like the articles themselves, our 8-week study is intentionally brief. It is not intended to provide a comprehensive justification or defense of the articles. Rather, it will enrich your understanding of what it means to live out your discipleship as a Nazarene. It is intended to help us all have clearer vision of the implication of these articles, and how they find expression in our homes, our communities, our workplaces, and our churches. The questions at the conclusion of each article will help transform these statements of faith into daily living.
