HOW TO GET CONNECTED

Prayer is talking and listening to God. It is sharing our thoughts, questions, fears, desires – opening our lives to God, holding nothing back. It is telling God our admiration for who He is, and contemplating His qualities. It is listening while He talks to us, providing comfort, peace, guidance, and direction requiring our worshipful obedience.

Prayer is also solidarity. Just as Jesus bore our burdens on His cross, we bear the burdens of others as if they were our own, laying them before the Father. In prayer, we approach Him in the names of those who don’t yet know Jesus, asking God to bring them into His family.

NMI gathers believers for prayer in the local church, linking us to our brothers and sisters across the globe. Through special focuses, such as prayer for the 10/40 window or the persecuted church, we unite in crying out to the Father, that His heavenly kingdom would break through on earth.

“Go and make disciples” were Jesus’ parting words as he sent his friends to join his mission in drawing all people to Him.

We understand His words as a mandate for believers to form deep friendships through which we help each other grow in Christlikeness. In the spiritual practice of discipling, we walk side-by-side along the faith journey, teaching, encouraging and loving one another.

As each believer disciples another believer, God’s presence multiplies exponentially – a chain reaction of learning, growth, challenge and love that will transform our world.

NMI is committed to discipling new generations in their faith journey. Discipling, of course, includes teaching developing young leaders about Christ’s global mission, and nurturing their mission passion. We do this through one-on-one mentoring, providing opportunities for leadership, and inviting developing leaders to participate in mission work here and now, no matter their age.

Just as the earliest Christians “pooled their resources so that each person's need was met,” (Acts 2:45, The Message) believers today eagerly share what they have to bring new members into God’s family.

In more than 150 world areas, Nazarenes’ passion for mission compels them to give in all kinds of ways: volunteering time, praying for all people to know Christ, generously sharing resources, and passing on the stories of the church, to name just a few.

One simple and essential way to express mission passion is financial support. NMI has designed a bunch of opportunities to support mission workers and meet human needs around the world through resource sharing.

And no one wants to be left out: a Zimbabwean woman brings the family’s only chicken to the altar during a mission offering; a United States teenager picks up a part-time job so he can give to the same offering; a Brazilian student donates her new computer to the church; a Korean businessman gives some of his profit to World Evangelism Fund; a group of Jamaican eight-year-olds offer a can of coins they’ve collected from friends and neighbors.

Nazarenes around the world generously share their resources to expand Christ’s kingdom on earth!

Nazarenes everywhere are sharing the mission stories of the church. Telling the story instills passion for mission. When Christ’s followers know what is at stake and hear how others are obeying God’s call to mission, they are challenged to participate as well.

NMI is committed to helping local churches tell the mission story. We provide resources and support for the local church as it informs and educates its members, not only in what other Nazarenes are doing in mission, but how they can get involved, too.

Explore the downloads, links, and resources on this site. Or send us an e-mail with ideas for resources you would like to see developed—we get many of our best ideas from people like you. Let us know about them.

And keep telling the story.

Tim and Susan McKeithen serving in Chile

Biography

Tim and Susan McKeithen are global missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene in Buenos Aires, Argentina since January 2002. They serve in the Southern Cone Field Office, where their ministries focus on the countries of Argentina, Chile and Uruguay (an area of 1.5 million square miles, with 21 districts, 15,000 Nazarenes in over 300 churches).

Tim and Susan are Work and Witness Coordinators for the Southern Cone Field. If you were thinking about coming down to South America, to help build a church for one of the scores of newly-started congregations and to take part in exciting church planting in one of the most beautiful regions of the world, contact them!

As a natural outgrowth of this, Tim will also be the Field Coordinator for Partnerships, a new ministry assignment which links people in the US who want to participate in the ministry of the field through visits, Work & Witness Teams, prayer and regular contact.

Tim is also the Sector Coordinator for Sector Five in the Southern Cone Field. This sector is made up of four Phase 1 districts in Argentina. These districts and churches of Sector 5 are evangelizing, planting churches in new cities, and training pastors and leaders for those churches.

Susan is Coordinator for the Child Sponsorship program of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries in the Southern Cone Field. There are almost 100 pastors’ children helped through this ministry. It is a great way to support our local pastors, all of whom are bi-vocational. When we bless their children, we bless them. Helping their children get an education helps them. Often these pastors’ children become pastors, too, so this is an investment for the future of the Church. There are always children on the waiting list for a sponsor.

Susan also works in the area of administration of reports for the Regional Evangelism Team. These monthly reports come from the Jesus Film teams from all over the ten countries of South America. There are 41 teams.
