What About Music & Worship Style PDF Print E-mail

Let's face it, for many people, they view their church's weekly worship service like an event that they are spectators at. It is almost as if they feel that they are critics and need to evaluate the songs sung, the message preached, and if they are not entertained then there was a problem. But in true worship, those who are in attendance are really the performers and God is the audience! The people up on the stage are simply leading YOU in worship of the Lord. When you look at worship with that perspective, it becomes less of a show and much more personal.

The worship music at Oak Lawn First could best be described as blended. That means we sing both new contemporary worship music and some of the old classic hymns. We tend not to focus as much on the style of music, but on the message of the lyrics that we are singing to God. Some songs are upbeat and some are soft and contemplative. Our praise band and choir does their best to lead us to do our best in worship.

When it comes right down to it though, true worship of God is a 24/7 365 thing. The Lord wants us to honor Him with our entire lives, and not just for an hour a week. When was the last time you really worshipped God? Why not worship with us this Sunday. Oh, and by the way, if you don't consider yourself a singer, just remember, the Bible says that our only requirement is that we make a joyful NOISE unto the Lord. So don't worry about it!
